Welcome! A bit about me...

Welcome!

Here's a little bit about me.  I was diagnosed with depression when I was 15 years old.  I was only on medication for a year and have spent the last decade or so trying to control my depression without any kind of medication.

After a bout of strep throat that made me feel horrible for two whole weeks, I healed and then came to the realization that my depression isn't as under control as I'd hoped.  So in an effort to get my happiness back, I've embarked on this journey of self-discovery and self-improvement.  In an effort to reclaim my happiness, I'll be focusing on three things:

        1. Diet - I've started eating healthier and I've cut down on junk food.  I still have cheat moments, but for the most part, I'm just trying to be aware of what I eat and how much.

        2. Exercise - I've ordered Jillian Michael's Body Revolution and I'm going to begin that as soon as it comes in.

        3.  Stress/Feelings Management - this one is the trickiest for me.  I've started reading a few self-help books that have to do with happiness, depression, and/or anxiety.  I've also signed up for a yoga class.  All in the hopes of finding ways to stay positive and kick depression's butt!  This step is all about attitude and making sure mine stays positive.  No more rumination allowed.

As a way to keep me "honest" and on track with my adventure, I've created this blog.  In it I'll post updates on my progress, books I've read that have helped me on this quest, recipes, inspiration, and anything else that will keep me going just one step at a time.

At the beginning of this journey (on April 24, 2014), I weighed 166 pounds.  It's been 3 weeks and I'm down to 160 pounds.  That's only with the change in my diet and my attitude.  It may not be much, but it's a start.

I'm taking this journey one step at a time.  Wish me luck!
